The Adventures of Flat Shelby

My niece's class has been sharing & enjoying the book "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown. Classmates have created their own Flat Person and mailed it to someone who has the privilege of documenting the travels and experiences of the Flat Person.

I'm honored to have been chosen to help with this class project and hope I can provide exciting adventures for Flat Shelby. I'm returning a journal to the class and sharing her experiences here as though they are written by her.

Swimming with Dolphins ..... almost!

We went to the zoo and gardens again today. We went in the underwater dome to watch the dolphins - that is so cool! But some people were being cruel and bouncing balls and the dolphins were trying to get them - but couldn't because it was through the glass.

This dolphin was coming to check me out! I wish I could have gotten in the water and played with him (or her).

There's a baby elephant at the zoo - you can see it with its Mommy on the hill behind me.

We had fun walking around at the zoo today. We also took some more pictures of butterflies. I think CherBear is going to put those on her website. When she does I will put a link here so you can see them.

Play Ball!

Today we went to a Little League ballgame. I'm glad it was a morning game because it was cooler. There was also a parade before the ballgame and all the players walked by handing out candy!

This evening we went to a concert, but we didn't take any pictures. Kent Bottenfield, a former All-Star St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, was singing at Landmark Baptist.

Walking in the Sky....

Well, not really in the sky.... but we did take the skywalk over Maryland Street from the convention center to the Westin. CherBear took pictures at Crossroads Bible College's 25th Anniversary Gala tonight so we were in the Sagamore Ballroom at the convention center. Chuck Lofton was the emcee but he left before I had the chance to get my picture taken with him.

Happy Easter!!!

Today CherBear and I went to Petsmart to stock up on food for Bo, Callie, & Kaz. After we left there we went to 11:45 service at church, then we went to Grandma & Grandpa's to eat lunch.

These are my new Easter shoes! They have butterflies on them - next time I go to White River Gardens to see the butterflies I'll have to see if I can find one like the ones on my shoes.

A Duet with Luke.... & a Day of Butterflies & Tulips

I went to Benjamin's Coffeehouse in Franklin tonight and Luke Austin Daugherty invited me to play a duet with him! You should go check out his music on his indieheaven site at http://www.indieheaven.com/view_artist.idh?artist_id=92894. He released his latest CD last month called "Songs & Poems in Brown & Blue".

We also went to White River Gardens to see the butterflies and flowers. We went to the zoo, too, but didn't get any pictures of me there because it started to rain.

Hide & Seek with Callie!

I've been playing hide & seek with the cats. In this picture I know where Callie is, but she doesn't know yet that I found her! I'm having lots of fun playing with them.

Sorry we didn't post on Tuesday. We had a long day! After work we went to the Central Indiana Christian Songwriters Association meeting at New Paradigm Church in Broad Ripple. CherBear's friend Bella was there, too. CherBear and Bella are not songwriters, but they know some of them so they went to provide support and to see what they could do to help. They do "Christian Songwriters in the Round" several times a month at coffeeshops and churches. If you have a question about those, leave a comment with your e-mail address. CherBear will take out your e-mail address before she publishes your comment - she approves them so we don't get spammed!

Thanks Michele for leaving the web address of the Ice Castle in Quebec! You can find it on the post with the postcard from Quebec.

CherBear says we have a special trip planned for Friday if the weather is OK. I can't wait to find out what it is!

We Can Go Another 500 Miles!

I went to work with CherBear again today. We stopped on the way home and she let me help her pump the gas. We should have went through the car wash but we didn't. I hope we do that another day so I can sit in the window and watch the soap & water!

Time for a Nap.....

This morning CherBear & I went to IHOP for breakfast with Andrew & Sharon before they left to go home.

This afternoon, Callie & I read the comics. We had just finished Garfield and were getting ready to take a lazy Sunday afternoon nap when CherBear took this picture.

Rock Star!

I told you earlier that I have a guitar collection. Here are a few of my favorites. The purple one has flames!

Any drummers and keyboard players out there? Let's start a band!

Books Books Books!!!

Sharon and Andrew came from London (Kentucky) to visit this weekend. We went to the mall and to Borders. CherBear took this picture of me with the books at Borders. There are lots of books here I'd like to read.

Today.... We Bought Chicken Poop!

We heard about this lip balm at the concert last Saturday night from Sonia V. It took us 3 Walgreens in 3 days .... but we finally found it! We decided that we had to try it just because of the name! The Walgreens in Greenfield has "We have chicken poop" on their big sign. We should have taken a picture. We'll stop again next week and see if it still says that.

It's all natural - but not that natural! It has pure non-GMO soy, jojoba, sweet orange, lavender, and bees wax. That's what the container and their website say.

It got it's name from the goofy grandpa of the girl who makes it. She would complain about her chapped lips. He’d say, “I know how to fix those chapped lips, I’ll rub some chicken poop on ‘em so you won’t be lickin’ ‘em.”

We tried it and we like it. It smells good, too.

Postcards from Michele

CherBear had to hurry home this evening to do some work on the computer for her old boss in California. While she worked I found these postcards from her friend Michele. Michele goes to lots of cool places. The one on the left is from Mexico - she went on a cruise for her birthday. The other one is from Canada - she went to a wedding in a hotel that was made out of ICE! The rooms, the beds, everything was made out of ice. CherBear showed me pictures of it that Michele e-mailed her but I want to go see it myself!

Someone Has Big Feet!

Location: New Castle, Indiana

Today we stopped by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. They have a GIANT shoe - it's probably a size 1,000! I'm glad we didn't see the person that wears a shoe this big!

There's another giant shoe in New Castle, we will try to stop and get a picture of it, too. I think they have the big shoes here because Steve Alford was born here. He used to play basketball and now he is a coach.

Tech Support Day

Location: Plainfield, Indiana
This evening I helped CherBear solve some networking problems - this is almost as bad as the tangled cables at her apartment. My job was to read the instruction manual in case she had any questions. They had 3 computers and we made them access the internet and added a program to keep them from getting sick from a virus or worm. Yuk! Did you know computers get sick, too, because there are bad people that do things to make them sick?

Race are Fun, Tornado Warnings are not...

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

I raced a car in the Awana Pinewood Derby at church. This is me looking through the door window to make sure we are at the right room.

I'm waiting on my turn to race. You can see some of the cars racing behind me.

I'm getting a ride in the pocket of the best Grandpa in the whole world!

Grandma let me use her camera to take some pictures. I took one of CherBear as she was taking one of me. I should borrow the camera so I can take pictures, too, as we go on our adventures.

Here's my car and Awana ribbon. I like those cool flames on the side of my car!

I won 2nd place!!!! Just some minor adjustments and I'll win the next one!

We had another big adventure tonight. CherBear and I had to take Bo, Callie, and Kaz to the bathroom because we had some tornado warnings. They didn't like that. Bo left scratches on CherBear's shoulder because he was trying to get out of her arms since he wanted out! I've heard someone say before that something they were doing was like trying to herd cats. Now I know why - that was hard and it sure wasn't fun!

Remember when there is a tornado warning to go to the basement or to a room that doesn't have windows. You don't want to get hit with flying glass if a window blows in.

A Rockin' Concert and a Birthday

Location: Bedford, Indiana & Indianapolis, Indiana

CherBear took me to a concert tonight in Bedford. Jerimae Yoder from Indianapolis and Sonia V. from Orlando were the opening acts. The headliner was The Listening. Their old name was "Rock and Roll Worship Circus". They were really loud so we sat in the back except when CherBear was taking a few pictures. I took my pink guitar to show them.

I laid down for a couple of minutes so CherBear could get a couple more pictures. I didn't mind, the guitar was getting heavy so it gave me 2 or 3 minutes to rest. Maybe later this week I will show you my guitar collection. I may pick a different one for the next concert.

I wanted my picture made with the band poster - I'm almost as big as it is!

Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday Bo & Callie
Happy Birthday to You!

Today was Bo & Callie's 8th birthday. I wanted my picture made with both of them to remember their party. I had to wait until they decided to rest for a few minutes.

I hope everyone remembered to set their clocks ahead today! If you didn't.... you're late!
